Free license to convert up to 10,000 lines of VB6 code to C# or VB.NET
Note: Even the Visual Basic Upgrade Companion can't do everything; some manual work will be required after initial conversion.
In conjunction with Microsoft we are happy to offer you a free license to convert up to 10,000 lines of code from Visual Basic to VB.NET or C#, your choice.
The MSDN special offer gets you a license to convert a single Visual Basic application with up to 10,000 lines of code to VB.NET or C#. Lines of code (LOC) counted don't include comments or blank lines. If your application is more than 10k LOC, or if you have more than one application (executable), you will need to purchase an additional license.
Ready to take your Visual Basic application to the web?
The free license converts your application to VB.NET or C# on the desktop. If your goal is a cloud-native web application on Azure, VELO is our agentic AI modernization platform built on Microsoft Foundry, and it automates the modernization of VB6 applications to Blazor on Azure.
You start by scanning your codebase, and within minutes VELO returns an assessment of your application and what its modernization will require. Our team uses that assessment to give you a fixed-price quote, and once you’re ready to proceed, the modernization runs autonomously on the platform. Deterministic analysis maps your application and plans the work before any code is translated, then language-specific agents convert the code in small, controlled steps to keep the output consistent.
